UHMWPE  is used for tabial component, Stainless steel 316L is used for formoral component. Combinations of UHMWPE and stainless steel 316L  have been used for knee joint prostheses mostly. The wear behavior of substitution material is probably caused by scratch total and direction on the friction between components which produced by knee joint activities The aim of this research is to study  the effects of scratch total and direction on stainless steel 316 L that have been implanted by ion nitrogen on the wear behavior of  UHMWPE. Stainless steel 316 L had been polished by silicon carbide paper and pasta alumina was  implanted by nitrogen ion  with 100 mA of  current, 100 keV of energy and  90 minutes of implantation time.  Pin on plate unidirectional reciprocating movement wear test and  bovine serum with 30 g/l of  proteins content as lubricant were used in this research . 180 N of  loader, 70 mm/s of sliding velocity, 96 km of  length friction and 30 mm of step length were applied. Combination of parallel  and perpendicular  of scratches directional with single and double of scratch total were evaluated.  The effect of scratches total and direction on stainless steel 316 L on the wear behavior of UHMWPE had been analyzed by wear volume and wear factor.  The result of this research shows of wear factor for single parallel and single perpendicular scratches are 6.595x10-8 mm 3 /Nm and 19.785x 10-8 mm 3 /Nm, double parallel and double perpendicular scratches are 13.19x10-8 mm 3 /Nm and 39.57x10-8 mm 3 /Nm.
